Scholarship Description
Every year, the International WaterCentre (IWC) awards scholarships to a number of excellent candidates who are accepted into the IWC Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM), and clearly demonstrate potential to become water leaders of the future.

The IWC Water Leader Scholarships offer full and partial tuition scholarships for Australian citizens, permanent residents and international applicants for the MIWM program. It targets two groups: (a) Future leaders from developing countries in Asia-Pacific, Africa, South and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and the Middle-East. (b) Future leader from selected countriesin North America, Europe, the Middle East or Asia.

Applications for full-tuition scholarships to study IWC Master of Integrated Water Managementfor the 2018 academic session opened on 1 May 2017 (for international candidates) and will open 1 July 2017 (for local candidates).

Eligibility
To apply for the scholarship, you must also apply for the MIWM program and meet the MIWM program entry requirements:
  • A completed undergraduate degree in a related field of study from an internationally-recognised institution.
  • Demonstrated English language proficiency (minimum scores for IELTS, TOEFL or PTE)
  • Two years practical experience (paid work or volunteer experience) in a related field is preferred but not essential.
International applicants are eligible and encouraged to apply. Successful international applicants must meet visa requirements of the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Selection criteria:
Typically, successful scholarship candidates will possess an excellent academic record and relevant professional experience. The IWC selection panel will use the following selection criteria when assessing scholarship applications:
  • Academic record: an excellent academic record and a likelihood of success in further study.
  • Professional and volunteering record: relevant employment and volunteering experience, achievements, membership of professional bodies and professional references.
  • Commitment to promoting and driving the implementation of collaborative, whole-of-water-cycle, integrated and interdisciplinary approaches to water management.
  • Leadership qualities including collaboration and team work, flexibility, initiative, communication skills, integrity and vision through professional, educational, community and other achievements.
  • Potential outcomes: the likelihood of positive impacts on the individual and the water sector from participating in the MIWM program.

Citizens of ALL countries (both Australians and other countries)

Participating Institutions
The four IWC Founding and Member Universities include University of Queensland, Griffith University, Monash University, and The University of Western Australia. The IWC program was created as a unique collaboration between these four leading Australian universities (the IWC Member Universities)

Fields of study
Only available to study the IWC Masters in Integrated Water Management(MIWM). Not available for IWC PGD/Cert programs or other program at IWC, The University of Queensland or any other institution. 
(While students enrol at The University of Queensland, modules are jointly delivered by world-leading industry experts and lecturers from the IWC's four founding universities)

Number of awards
Up to 3 scholarships for international candidates:
  • A – Up to two full tuition and full living costs scholarships for future water leaders from developing countries in Asia-Pacific, Africa, South and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe and the Middle-East.
  • B – One full tuition scholarship for a future water leader from North America, Europe, the Middle East or Asia

Scholarship benefits
The scholarships involve the categories:
  • A – Each scholarship is valued at approximately AU$ 92,645 and will cover full tuition fees, living costs, return air travel to Australia, student visa and overseas health cover.
  • B – The scholarship is valued at approximately AU$ 52,500 and will cover full tuition fees and overseas health cover.

DEADLINES:
The IWC Masters Scholarships are open annually for international candidates (from 1 May - 1 August) and domestic candidates (from 1 July - 1 October). The application period for the 2018 IWC Masters Scholarships are 1 May 2017 - 1 August 2017 (for international candidates) and 1 July 2017 - 1 October 2017 (for domestic candidates). 

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Domestic candidates are Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens. International candidates are all other candidates.

The International WaterCentre Master of Integrated Water Management creates water leaders by drawing on international teaching and research from many fields to provide a transdisciplinary, whole-of-water-cycle approach to water management. The IWC founding universities are highly ranked, among the top 1% in the world for teaching and research (QS World University Rankings).
