Scholarship Description
The Chevening Scholarship Programme makes awards to talented individuals who demonstrate the potential to become future leaders, decision makers and opinion formers. The awards enable Scholars to study a one-year postgraduate Master’s course in any discipline at any UK university.

Chevening is the UK government’s prestigious international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British Embassies and High Commissions throughout the world.

Applications for 2018/19 Chevening Scholarships and some Chevening Fellowship awards are open between 7 August and 7 November 2017. Applications for various Chevening Fellowships programmes open at different points during the year. 


Eligibility
To be eligible for a Chevening Award you must:
  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended
  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry to a postgraduate programme at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK.
  • Have at least two years’ work experience (this may be up to five years for fellowship programmes, please refer to your country page for further details)
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 12 July 2018
  • Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 12 July 2018
If you do not meet the above criteria please do not apply. Your application will not be considered.

Scholarship Benefits
Provides full or part funding for full-time courses at postgraduate level at any UK university. Partial scholarships may cover tuition only or allowances only.

full Chevening Scholarship award normally comprises:
  • payment of tuition fees;
  • travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for you only;
  • an arrival allowance;
  • a grant for the cost of preparation of a thesis or dissertation (if required);
  • an excess baggage allowance;
  • the cost of an entry clearance (visa) application for you only;
  • a monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses. The monthly stipend will depend on whether you are studying inside or outside London. It is subject to annual review.
Method of Application
Applications for Chevening Awards can only be submitted using the Chevening online application system, available through the 'apply' button on your country's page. Detailed advice on applying for fellowships can be found through your country's fellowship page.

Prior to starting your application for a Chevening Scholarship please ensure you have the following ready:
  • Essential: Three different UK master's course choices
  • Optional: English language test results (if you've already met the requirements)
  • Optional: UK master's university offer (if you've already met the requirements)
You can submit your initial application without the required optional documents and upload them to your application at any point up to 12 July 2018. Please note that only documents in PDF format can be uploaded and documents cannot be over 5MB in size.

DEADLINE:
Applications for the 2018/2019 Chevening Scholarships opens on August 7, 2017. Applications for all scholarships and some fellowships close on 7 November at 12:00 GMT (midday UK time)

Chevening recommends that you submit your application as early as possible – preferably well before the closing date for your country. You must set out clearly in your Personal Statement on the application form how you believe you meet the Chevening selection criteria

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Chevening Scholarship programme was established in 1983 and is now an internationally prestigious scheme with over 42,000 alumni. The over 42,000 Chevening alumni around the world together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network.
