Scholarship Description
The University of Portsmouth offers the Global Outreach: Access to Learning (GOAL) Awardsfor international students who wish to pursue a full time undergraduate or full time postgraduate course of study at the university.

The GOAL Awards are bursaries that give the successful student a 10% fee reduction on his/her first year of study, and it applies to all degree courses. Only applicants who have been assessed as overseas students for tuition fee purposes can access this award. 

You do not need to apply for these bursaries - eligible applicants will be awarded automatically. The discounted fee will be stated on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS). 


Eligibility
You must have been assessed as overseas students for tuition fee purposes to access this award. Eligibility is determined by nationality. 

The award is for self-funding students who are nationals of middle and low income countries, as defined principally by the United Nations Human Development Index - see below for eligible countries. If your country does not appear on the list below, please contact the university to see if you may be eligible. 

Bursaries are available to self-funding, undergraduate students studying on a full-time course with annual fees of £12,000 or above for 2016 entry and £12,600 or above for 2017 entry and all self-funding full-time postgraduate taught and research students

The award is ONLY for international (non-EU) students for the first year of study at Portsmouth (and is not available to students who have previously undertaken other courses there).

Awards cannot be combined with any other scholarship, discount or fee offer, except the 2% 'prompt payment discount' for students paying their fees in full at the start of the academic session.

These bursaries will not be available to students pursuing, withdrawing or transferring from courses at International College Portsmouth (ICP)

Scholarship benefits
The value of this bursary award amounts to a reduction in fees. This takes the form of a 10% fee reduction, effective at the time of registration and will only apply to the first year of study.

Method of Application
Once you have found a course, you can view the application details on the course page. Each course page will cover the entry requirements and level of language required for international students (more here). You do not need to apply for the bursaries - eligible applicants will be awarded automatically. The discounted fee will be stated on your Confirmation of Acceptance for Study (CAS). The CAS is the final document you receive when you have an unconditional offer to study at the University of Portsmouth and have paid your deposit.

DEADLINE:
Undergraduate deadlines: UCAS starts receiving applications for entry from 1 September every year. It’s best to apply as soon as you feel you’ve made the right choice of course and university. If possible, try to ensure that your application reaches UCAS by 15 January (more here). However, you can still apply after the UCAS deadline of 15 January, either through UCAS Extra or directly to the University with no deadline (more here). 

Postgraduate deadline: No specific deadline has been outlined for postgraduate courses (more here)

PLEASE NOTE:
Only two tests are accepted by UKVI as a secure English Language Test (SELT): a). International English Language Testing System* (IELTS) - test taken worldwide at approved centres; AND b). Trinity College London - test taken in the UK at approved centres.

  1. A referee isn’t someone who will be booking people or sending them off, a referee in this instance is someone who will be providing a guarantee, of sorts, to your student accommodation providers that you are capable of paying your accommodation fees, a guarantor of sorts.
